5 Tips to Lose that Final 5

Losing weight is tough. Losing those last pesky pounds to reach your goal is tougher. Staying positive and motivated during a weight loss plateau is the toughest. If you are doing everything right—eating well, strength training, cardio—a few minor changes could be all the difference to help you overcome your plateau! Here are 5 Tips to help you shred the final 5:

1. Drink more water!
Drinking plenty of water is a top priority for any workout and diet plan. We all know that water hydrates the body, allowing our muscles to perform at their highest ability, but it also boosts the immune system, aids in digestion, flushes toxins, and promotes weight loss. Drinking water is a natural, healthy, zero-calorie appetite suppressant. Drink a glass of water before every meal and throughout the day. When the snack-attack hits, it will help you not overeat and keep you healthfully hydrated all day making your ready for your after-work workout.

2. More Cardio Confusion!
Are you partial to the treadmill? Prefer your spin class? Though finding what you love at the gym is vital to reaching your weight loss goals, we urge you to mix up your cardio. Try a different machine or a new class. Switching out your cardio of choice for something new will challenge new muscles while increasing or decreasing your heart rate. Hitting both aerobic and anaerobic numbers on your heart rate monitor are extremely important and beneficial for weight loss and overall health.

3.Go Green!
Popeye was onto something with all of that spinach consumption. However, not everyone is Popeye, or a rabbit, and eating straight leafy greens can be difficult to get into your daily diet. Assuming a full bunch of spinach going down at one time is off of the table of possibilities; try working your greens in a new way to optimizetheir health and weight loss aiding benefits. Our favorite and super easy way is a green smoothie! Give this recipe a try and feel free to work in all types of greens—kale, spinach, chard, collards, or parsley!

½-2 cups any greens you have
1-cup liquid (juice, water, drinkable yogurt, nonfat milk, non-dairy milk)
1-cup fresh fruit you have in the fridge (berries and banana are our favorites!)
1-cup frozen something (ice, strawberries, grapes)
OPTIONAL ADD-INS:
Protein source (yogurt, almond butter, protein powder)
Extra Flavor (cinnamon, vanilla, ginger)
Chia or Flax seeds

4. Snooze!
Squeezing a solid, sweat-dripping workout in  at the gym between work, errands, and all of the other daily obligations can often throw off your sleeping patterns. Though exhausted, most Americans still do not get the recommended eight hours of sleep. To boost your weight loss efforts, make sure you are catching enough Z’s at night. Metabolism and sleep are controlled by the same area of the brain. This is why you feel the need to snack late at night, when in reality you are just tired. To maximize the results from your hard work at the gym, do not snack and instead, go to bed!

5. Up and At ‘Em!
With plenty of sleep from the night before, take advantage of the early hours of the day to burn your calories! Exercise in the morning kick starts your metabolism and keeps it going through the day, which ultimately means you are burning calories all day long and smashing your weight loss goals! Plus, with proper hydration and nutrition post-workout and through the day, your energy levels will be high creating spillover for maybe another killer sweat sesh.
