How To: Be Beach Ready by Summer

Along with flowers, May brings longer days, warmer weather, and a looming one month countdown until summer officially starts! Beach days and vacations are planned and all that’s left is squeezing into that swimsuit that’s been jammed in your bottom drawer for nine months.

Don’t stress! Heroes Fitness is here to help and guide you. With these easy 5 tips, you will be turning heads and strutting along the sand in no time!

1. Drink more water.

Hydration is always vital as the thermometer starts creeping up. Full hydration boosts your performance during your workouts, which will deliver the highest results. Plus, increasing your water intake can also help with weight management and even weight loss. So supplement your normal daily water consumption with a whole glass before every meal.  This will fill you up just enough to ensure that you don’t over eat and will help keep you fully hydrated to keep your metabolism churning.

2. Drink less alcohol.

As the opposition to your water intake, alcohol increases bloating, causes dehydration, and creates restless sleep, which then detracts from your energy levels and decreases your performance in the gym. Never mind the added calories! We understand a glass of wine or a beer to unwind after a long day is exactly what the body wants—feed that need, but consume in moderation. Cut back your glasses from 4-5 a week to 2-3, and you should feel better by morning!

3. Jump on the strength train.

Toned abs and a perky booty do not come without hard work. Build that muscle definition one squat and curl at a time. Adding strength training to your regime—yes, ladies, you too!—will burn more calories after the workout is done than just cardio alone. Burning calories even when you are not working out? Sounds like a good plan. Plus, choosing dynamic exercises that incorporate multiple muscle groups in one movement (think planks or elevated push-ups) is like hitting two birds with one stone—efficient and effective! Talk to a personal trainer today if you need some guidance on creating the best workout plan for you.

4. Cardio-a-go-go.

Cardio doesn’t have to mean running on the hamster wheel, unless that’s your preference, then by all means go for it! But cardio exercises can be incorporated into your strength training by adding intervals of jumping jacks or jumping rope between sets. Anything that increases your heart rate and keeps it elevated will intensify your workout and boost results. Join one of our group spin class or a local running group if cardio generally isn’t your preference and you’re looking for some extra motivation. Start with 30 minutes, three times a week and watch as the pounds shed away.

5. Work on whole foods.

Ingesting whole foods—fruits, veggies, whole grains, eggs—in their most natural, unprocessed form should take center stage in the kitchen. Staying close to the earth in your food choices will result in a more nutrient-dense diet and ultimately a happier, healthier body. Ridding the body of toxins acquired from chemical and GMO consumption from processed foods will definitely help in weight loss, increased energy levels, better sleep quality, and mood stability. Fuel your body with happy foods!
